Learning some new things

Well, can't say that I didn't know this completely, but its still pretty good to hear. Since I am a bit heavier, to sustain my weight I need more calories than the average person, over 3000 actually. This will make it easier to lose weight if I limit how much I eat. So I started to use a calorie/food diary. I can't figure out how to actually post it on here, but I can copy/paste what I enter in.

Yea, I had 5 guys for lunch...it is amazing! I never said that I was going to eat nothing but Wheat bread and yogurt!

Update

Sorry on the late update, I wanted to make this a little more used on a daily basis, but I guess you have to start somewhere, right?

Well, I have been doing the EA thing for a little over 1 week. The 3rd day was the worst, I could barely walk up steps. Now I am starting to get acclimated to the workout routine and I am not in as much pain!

The first week I lost 5lbs! A lot of water weight I'm sure, but still exciting to see that!

So my opinion of the EA Fitness game still hasn't changed, I LOVE it and would recommend it to ANYONE who want to spend 20 mins working out and getting a GREAT varied workout!

Ok, well thats it for now, I will try to update this blog a little more often!

A New Beginning?

Well, recently I started my new job. I work at Progressive now, and this job keeps me a bit more active than my last one. I have been enjoying a little bit more movement throughout the day and a bit more energy because of it. Of course, that "light" workout throughout the day has started to become more routine than a "workout." Also, my recent approach to 300lbs has made me re-think my lifestyle and health goals. I wish I could say that by next year I will be 180lbs and a whole different person, but I have never done well with weight goals.

A few weeks ago I bought a Wii Fit, in hopes that this would somehow mix my passion of video games and the necessity of a workout. It came up flat. Although a few mini-games were fun, they hardly equated to a workout. I was not interested in Yoga because I believe it has some spiritual implications, so the "coolness" factor QUICKLY wore off.

In come EA Active. I bought this a few weeks ago. I read that it gave a good cardio workout and got some
pretty decent reviews. Could this be the thing that mixed my love for video games and the need for a workout?

Here is whats in the package, the game, a resistance band, and a little pouch to hold the Wii remote on your thigh.

I bought EA Active one Sunday after church 2 weeks ago. I saw it at Target and decided to read some reviews. The reviews were all positive, so I bought, mainly for Jen, who was all about the Wii fit. I thought she would enjoy the extra workout option. Well, neither of us opened the thing, until June 6th.

I finally opened the package and started up the Wii. I was immediately pleasantly surprised at the intuitive menu and the active music playing in the background, but I had no clue what I was getting myself into. After creating an Avatar with skin color, hair color, and body type (it isn't NEARLY fat enough), I input my weight, height and some other information. I was introduced to a guy I had heard about before, Bob Greene, and was quickly introduced to a 30-Day Challenge. I started the challenge on Medium settings and I was off.

I had always been skeptical about the whole running in place thing, but it got my heart pumping! Maybe it is just my lack of stamina, but I guess running in place is better than sitting. The next 23 minutes were great. I was running, boxing, rollerblading, doing lunges and leg kicks. All of this helped keep my heart pumping for the whole workout routine. The music in the background was energetic but not intrusive, it kept me moving. After the workout, I was excited to see that I had burned 260 calories. This exceeded the expectation of the game initially at 220 calories. I had been entertained for that time, but yet I worked up a sweat like crazy!

At day 1, I was amazed. I thought the workout was great, they were clear enough, simple enough, but engaging enough to keep my heart pumping the whole time. I enjoyed all of the games and never became bored with it. Day 1 was great, but could I keep it up for Day 2?

Well here I am, at the end of Day 2. I did another workoug (this one 30 mins) and I am FEELING IT. I may have pushed myself a little hard, but the reward was great. 290 calories burned! So now where do I go from here?

I have tried other "workout routines" before. Eliptical, gym memberships, dieting, walking, biking, etc, but I could never keep up with it. To be honest, its easy to excuse yourself from it, hey, life is busy after all! I could have an accountability partner with my wife or a friend, but its easy to just yell at your wife to stop bugging you, or to push your friends a bit to leave you alone. So, I decided, I should try the ULTIMATE accountability partner, YOU. I don't know if anyone will actually pay attention to this, but I hope my posting a daily blog or journal online, will help motivate me in some weird way.

So here starts Day 1(actually Day 2 of the 30 day challenge). I hope to post things like weight updates, pictures, food I have eaten for the day, exercises, other work done, etc. I hope that some people will step up to help keep me accountable, and with this, I may lose 20 pounds in a month. Please leave your comments or suggestions on what I should do (or stop doing) to live life a little bit healthier.

So whats my ultimate purpose in this? The secondary things are my wife, kids, grandkids, work, family, friends, etc. Primarily, I hope that I can ultimately give God more glory in this. In losing weight? How, you ask? I believe that God has given me this wonderful gift that is my body. Unfortunately, I have not been taking care of this gift. God has been gracious and patient with me, he has given me relatively good health for 26 years, its time to start taking care of what God has given to me. So, on with the weight loss, and to ALL things, God be the Glory!

Day 1 Pics

I'm going to spare you guys that half naked pics, a white shirt is as close as its getting! Hopefully I can see some results in 30 days. We will see how it goes!

First blog

Hello all! I don't think anyone will really read this, but I figured I would start this out just so I can vent whenever I need to. I might talk about anything here, things that interest me, and things that don't. So if you stumble upon this, enjoy!
